Small “Gnome” statues began appearing in Europe in the early 1600s as a sign of good luck. The “Garden Gnome” as we know them today appeared in Germany in the mid to late 1800s and were always made of clay. They were popular in German fairy tales and were often described as old men who guarded treasure. In the 1840s, “Gnome” first appeared in the gardens of England, and from there, their popularity began to take off. The mythical “Gnome” were thought to live underground as their name derives from a Latin word for earth dweller.

“Gnome” were thought to provide protection, especially for buried treasure and minerals in the ground. They are still used today to watch over crops and livestock, often tucked into the corners of a barn or hidden in the garden. In fairy tales, although they are kind and considerate to humans, the “Gnome” keep their possessions very mysterious; they never allow humans to know the deep cave where they reside and only appear when they want to.

While researching, I also know “Gnome” in a completely different sense. This “Gnome” refers to people who are intellectually active, quiet, and often unknown to the public. This new concept coincides with who I am and what I aim for, so I used it to name this blog.

ABOUT THE WEBSITE

This land includes articles with different topics such as scattered thoughts about life, traveling experiences, everyday stories, etc. I choose writing and photographing to express myself and, at the same time, narrate what I have been experiencing, with the desire to keep memories for myself and spread a little inspiration to those who read my blog.

FAVOURITE MOTTO

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”

ABOUT “GNOME” I know “Gnome” by chance through a perfume bottle named “Confession of a Garden Gnome.” The word “Gnome” was introduced to refer to a creature with a small stature, often wearing a high, pointed, red hat.
